In-depth interviews for business
In-depth interviews for business
An in-depth interview is a qualitative method: a one-on-one conversation lasting 40–90 minutes. Unlike a group, there is no influence from other participants, so you can explore a person’s motives, doubts and experience in detail, including sensitive topics people avoid in a group.
Top Team runs in-depth interviews to understand the customer from the inside: how they make a decision, what matters to them, where barriers and doubts arise on the path to purchase. This is especially valuable for B2B, expensive purchases and complex products, where decisions are made deliberately.
We reconstruct the real customer journey — from realising a need to choosing and after purchase — so you see exactly where you lose or convince a person.
What we do
In-depth interviews solve different tasks:
- interviews with customers and prospects
- interviews with those who declined a purchase
- reconstructing the customer journey
- researching sensitive and personal topics
- understanding motives in B2B decisions
- testing complex products and services
- finding the customer’s jobs-to-be-done
What the service includes
The service covers interview script design, respondent selection and recruitment, running the conversations, recording and transcript, analysis and a report with conclusions. We identify recurring patterns and insights rather than just retelling individual conversations.
How we work: stages
Work runs in stages: brief and goal, script and selection criteria, recruitment, running interviews, analysis and report. We run as many conversations as needed to see recurring patterns and present the result as clear conclusions.
Methodology and approach
The interview is led by an experienced interviewer who builds a trusting atmosphere, so people speak openly about real motives. We do not ask leading questions or fit answers but listen and go deeper — that is how non-obvious insights emerge.
Who needs it
In-depth interviews are for when it matters to understand "why" deeply:
- for B2B and complex long sales
- for expensive, considered purchases
- for sensitive or personal topics
- to understand reasons for refusals and churn
- to build the customer journey
- to develop a new product or service
- to personalise communication
Data quality and result
The quality of an in-depth interview depends on trust and the interviewer’s skill — that is our main focus. We show the real picture, including uncomfortable reasons for refusals, and identify patterns rather than single opinions. The result is an understanding of the customer’s logic, ready to apply in product and communication.
From data to decisions
We do not leave the data as a "report in a drawer": the insights feed into marketing strategy, positioning and ad campaigns. We translate research results into concrete actions — what to change in the product, communication and advertising.
Why businesses choose Top Team
We combine sociological methodology with marketing expertise: we build the sample and instruments correctly, keep the method clean and present results in business language. You get clear answers to business questions ready to use in decisions, not "data for the sake of data".
