Amazon Brand Registry: How to Enrol Your Brand and Why It Matters

Amazon Brand Registry: How to Enrol Your Brand and Why It Matters

Brand Registry is not a formality about branding — it is the gateway to half of Amazon's toolset. Without it there is no A+ Content, no Sponsored Brands, no Sponsored Display, no storefront and no search-query analytics. More importantly, without it you cannot protect your own listing from other sellers.

Here is what enrolment requires, how long it takes, what it delivers in practice, and the order to do things in.

What Brand Registry unlocks

ToolWhat it gives you
A+ ContentA visual module in place of the plain description
Sponsored BrandsA banner above search with your logo and several products
Sponsored DisplayRetargeting and placement on competitors' listings
Brand StoreYour own storefront and catalogue inside Amazon
Brand AnalyticsReal data on search terms and buyer behaviour
Hijacking protectionFast removal of unauthorised sellers from your listing
Transparency and Project ZeroCounterfeit control programmes

The most underrated entry is Brand Analytics. It is the only source of Amazon's own data on what buyers search and what they subsequently purchase. Every third-party tool works from estimates; this is the platform's own figures.

What enrolment requires

The essential condition is a registered trademark. Not a brand name printed on the packaging, but a certificate from the intellectual property office of the market you are selling into.

Amazon accepts registered marks, or applications filed through its IP Accelerator programme. For the US that means USPTO, for the EU EUIPO, for the UK UKIPO. A Ukrainian trademark certificate does not qualify for Amazon US.

Beyond the mark you need: a seller account with brand owner permissions, photographs of the product and packaging showing the logo applied, a link to the brand's website or social profiles, and the list of categories you sell in.

Cost and timeline

StageDuration
Filing a trademark applicationA few days
Trademark registration (USPTO)8–12 months and up
Via IP AcceleratorBrand Registry access within weeks
Brand Registry verificationA few days to 2–3 weeks

The figure that matters is eight to twelve months for standard trademark registration. Which is why the application should go in long before you need it — at launch, not when problems start.

IP Accelerator is the paid route through accredited law firms that grants Brand Registry access before registration completes. More expensive, but it saves close to a year.

Listing protection: the real reason

Every seller with an own-brand product eventually meets this scenario: another seller appears on your listing at a lower price. They may be selling a counterfeit, they may be reselling your own batch — but the Buy Box goes to them and the negative reviews stay with you.

Without Brand Registry you write to support and wait. With it you have a violation reporting tool that works in days rather than weeks.

The second scenario is someone editing your listing content. On Amazon the listing is shared across all sellers of a product, and without a verified brand anyone can overwrite your changes.

Enrolment mistakes

Filing a trademark in the wrong jurisdiction. It must match the market you sell in.

No logo on the product. Amazon checks the photographs: the brand must be physically present on the product or packaging, not only in the listing.

Brand name in listings not matching the mark. A difference in case or spacing is enough for a rejection.

Enrolling under a contractor's account. You must be the brand owner in Brand Registry, or you lose control along with the contractor.

What to do once approved

In order of effect against effort: build A+ Content on your strongest products, assemble a Brand Store, launch Sponsored Brands, export Brand Analytics and check your keywords against real data, and set up violation monitoring.

A+ Content produces the fastest visible result — how to build it is in Amazon A+ Content.

Frequently asked questions

Can I operate without Brand Registry?

If you resell other brands' products, yes — you are not eligible anyway. If you own a trademark, enrolment is a matter of time, and the earlier the application is filed the better.

Do I need a trademark in every country?

Each Amazon region requires the corresponding jurisdiction. One Brand Registry can cover several marketplaces where the mark is registered with the relevant offices.

What do I do while the trademark is pending?

Work with what is available: listing, photography, reviews, Sponsored Products. Sponsored Products does not require Brand Registry — see Amazon PPC: campaign types.

Does Brand Registry stop counterfeits entirely?

No. It gives you response tools; monitoring remains your job. Transparency and Project Zero exist for systematic protection.

How many brands can one account enrol?

Several, given a registered trademark for each. That is standard for sellers running multiple product lines.
